Bernard Barnes, 80, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 at home. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. A private burial will occur on Thursday at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Bernard was born on April 6, 1928 Walter and Alice Barnes in Redfield. He served in the Army during the Korean War. For many years, Bernard worked as a siding applicator and then retired from Valley West Mall after 20 years.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Joe of Des Moines and Wayne of Kellerton; daughters, Sharon Ellsworth and Linda Markle, both of Des Moines; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Willie of Anderson, MO, Max and Harold, both of Des Moines.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; daughter, Katherine Bishop; and son, Walter D. Barnes.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of sorrow. I enjoyed the visits that we shared when Russ and I were together. Jennifer was very upset when I told her the news. Family support and love is very important and alot of family you have. Through these years there was a time that I would reminise about everyone back then and some of the experiences that we shared brings a smile. God Bless you and keep you.
