Bertha Jewell Jones

Bertha J. Jones, 87, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Taylor House Hospice. Bertha was born on March 22, 1921 in Arkansas to Issac and Dora Mangrum.
Bertha was a professional cook for Saylor Center Schools, Drake Fraternity and the Holiday Inn South. She managed at Dahl’s deli for years as well as owned and operated the Little Diner in Norwalk.
Bertha enjoyed cooking for family and friends, fishing, making purses and picking strawberries for strawberry jam. She was a member of the Grandview Church of Christ and attended the Eastside Senior Center.
She is survived by daughter, Linda (Dave) Chongo of Ankeny, IA; son, Robert (Chris) Woods of West Des Moines, IA; sister, Lillie Pearson of Lake Village, AR; 11grandchildren, Sheryl Lawrence, Joe Jones, Jill Chongo, Joe Chongo, David Chongo, Charles Chongo, Cathy Rankin, Bobby F. Woods, Christine Marquis, Billy Marquis and Michael Marquis; numerous great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Jones; her parents; two daughters, Martha Marquis and Arlene Jones; two brothers, Robert and Elvis and two sisters, Mildred and Cora.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines; burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Taylor House Hospice in loving memory of Bertha.
