Edward V. Frazier, Jr.
July 26, 2018
Edward Vance Frazier, Jr. was born December 29, 1928, to Edward Vance Frazier, Sr. and Roberta (Roman) Frazier. He was raised in the church under the direction of his grandfather, the late Rev. J.R. Roman. He was educated in the Des Moines Public School System where he was among some of the first black students to graduate from Lincoln High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the armed forces in 1947. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1948, with a WWII Good Conduct Medal, and American Theater Ribbon. In his free time, Edward loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, creating many memories with his children and grandchildren over the years. He traveled extensively with his family from coast to coast in their camper. Edward gave of his time to children, enjoying many hours serving as a Little League baseball coach.
In May 1949, he married Ruby Joann Buford. They were blessed with five children – Edward Vance Frazier III (AKA Luigi, deceased), Ronald James Frazier, Sr. (Sandy), Jacquetta Harris, Pastor Derek Wayne Frazier, Sr. (Twila), Marva Fife (Rudy), and Norman Pickett.
Edward’s love for God made him faithful, and his dedication and service was endless. What God has granted and ordered in Edward’s step was to be a father, son, brother, papa, uncle and cousin. On July 26, 2018, God called Edward to rest. “Your labor is done, my good and faithful servant.”
Edward leaves to cherish and carry on his memory his wife, Ruby, children, Ronald, Derek, Jacquetta, Marva, and Norman, 38 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Roberta, siblings, Nathaniel, Bobby, Lorraine Bailey, Lois Hunt, and Minnette Scott, son, Edward III, and grandson, Ronald Jr.
The family would like to thank everyone for your kind words, calls, and cards during this time of sorrow.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 3, 2018, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, also at Hamilton’s, and will conclude with burial at Glendale Cemetery.

To Rev. Derek, Sis. Twila and the entire family,
I'm sorry I was not able to attend the service for your Dad. I shall always remember Bro. "Sonny Boy" as a very kind, quiet, funny and devoted warrior of Christ. Rest assured that he is with the Lord. I will continue to keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers each day.
God Bless, Peace & Love

I will always remember Sonny Boy as one of my very favorite relatives. We laughed and joked, and shared countless stories about all things big and small. He was my first little league baseball coach when I was only 8 years old, and he stayed my coach until I was 13. He was a patient and wonderful mentor. I will always and forever cherish those memories.
Godspeed to Sonny Boy, and my heart-felt condolences, thoughts and prayers to each and every member of his great family.

To the family of cousin Sonny Boy Frazier -
"I'm sorry for your loss" just doesn't seem to convey how much he is and will be missed. Shaking my head, I realize family reunions just aren't going to be the same. May you find comfort in knowing he is at peace more greater than we will ever know. Even though I cannot be there with you, I send love and hugs in spirit.
