Betty L. Hollingsworth

Betty L. Hollingsworth, 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 in Madrid, Iowa. She was born on April 17, 1926 in Mason City, Iowa to Park and Fern (Vawter) Thomason. Betty and her three siblings were raised in Rock Falls, Iowa. She graduated from Rock Falls High School. Immediately following high school, she went to Washington, DC to work for the FBI.
Betty was married to William “Bill” Johnson in 1948. Together they raised three children, Dennis, Greg and Barbara in Mason City. She stayed at home to babysit for neighborhood children before working at Park Clinic, Mercy Hospital, and Mason City High School.
In 1976 she moved to Des Moines and worked for many years with Drs. Eidbo and Shirley. She married Dean Hollingsworth in 1984, and they resided in Ankeny. They were members of Ankeny United Methodist Church.
After retiring in 1996, Betty moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico where she served as an RSVP volunteer for many years.
While the rest of the family waits to join Grandma Betty, she was met at the gates of heaven by her parents; two sons, Greg Johnson and infant Bernard Johnson; husband, Dean Hollingsworth; siblings, Duane Thomason, Dorothy Dunton and Marvel Thomason; grandchildren, “EJ” Johnson and Robert Adams; and two infant great-grandchildren, Michael Campbell and Ashly Johnson-Carpenter.
Survivors include her children, Dennis Johnson and his wife Marvella, Barbara Adams and her husband John; daughter-in-law, Denise Johnson, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
The family will greet friends from 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, at 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Jim Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

I have so many wonderful memories of Betty, from my childhood all thru to these past few years. My deepest sympathy to Denny and Barb, along with all of Bettys family.

Aunt Betty will be missed and she was loved by a lot of people. I remember her as always willing to help anyone who needed help. She took good care of her children and leaves many, many beautiful memories. Love you, miss you, your niece Pat
