William L. Freeman, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Mercy Hospital. He was born the son of Guy and Helen Freeman on December 17, 1937 in Des Moines, where he remained a lifelong resident.

William worked for Operating Engineers Local #234 for 20 years before starting his employment with the City of Des Moines for 24 years and was a proud Auxiliary Police Officer from 1959 - 1972. He was a very devoted member of the Masonic Lodge #370 since January of 1984, he served as Past Master. William was also a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carol; sons, Cliff (Nona) Freeman, Jerry Freeman, and Bill (Candace) Freeman; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Guy (Carleen) Freeman and Leon (Diane) Freeman; and sister, Helen (Gary) Goddell.

William was preceded in death by his parents; son, Danny Freeman; brothers Larry W. Freeman and Jerry L. Freeman; and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a Masonic service to begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service, Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment will occur at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
