Sandi passed away at Kavanagh House on July 22, 2018. I first met Sandi while we were going to school in Madison, WI in the summer of 1969. We married on November 1 of that same year. That started us off on an adventure of nearly 49 years. She presented us with two wonderful children, Matt (Mindy) and Keli (Tom). They, in turn, treated us to five energetic and terrific grandchildren – Gage, Elli, Emma, Hadley and Jack. Sandi cherished family. So, in total, these kids filled her heart with a love that she expressed to them daily.
While our journey together was far too short, I can’t imagine a road better taken. Not only was she the love of my life, she was my best friend. Thank you, Sandi, for being here.
Aside from her husband, Dave, Sandi is survived by her sister, Dixie (Guy); her two brothers, Johnnie and Larry (Joleen); and all of her wonderful kids and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Viola, and her brother, Tommy.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 12:00 noon with visitation prior from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, with a social gathering to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

To all of Sandis family and friends, that she loved and cherished so much, we are so sorry for your loss. Sandi was a wonderful, happy, fun, and compassionate lady who would do anything to support those struggling in life, as well as being a great professional who was always there in the front office at UMS, ready to assist in anyway she could. We loved her smile, her laugh, her jokes, and the amazing twinkle in her eyes when she spoke of her family and those adorable grandkids. She will forever be missed, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and cared so much about.

We are so sorry about Sandi's passing. What an awesome lady, and so much fun! The many softball games we sat together and watched while our daughters played were the best of times. Our love and sympathy to all of you.

Dave, Matt, Mindy, Keli,Tom,
My heart is broken for the loss of such a fun loving wife, Mom and Mimi. Sandi and I had many laughs over all the funny things our grandkids said and did that made life so special for us. She was extended family and a forever friend. Love you all.

I met you, worked with you, became friends and then became family!!!
Yes, being a friend to Sandi was a "special treat" as you never knew what good thing was coming next, but it was always there for you...
So my dear friend, thanks for sharing so many good things with me and now sit back and enjoy your "treat" in heaven ....

I went to high school with Sandy. To this day I remember her in my driver's training class and how we laughed so hard we could hardly get through class. There are a hand full of people in your life that you click immediately by pure humor. she was one. I would have liked to have connected to her again.

Sandi was one of the brightest lights at UMS. She was friendly, knowledgeable and dependable. Family and friends were special to her, and I know she will be the brightest light in your hearts. She will be missed by many and forgotten by no one. Love and prayers go out to you.

Dave and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Sandi's passing. Sandi was one of the first people we met upon arriving at UMS. She was a critical member of the office team, and along with Wendy, they kept John and me on the straight and narrow. I will always remember her laugh and all she did for our staff and students. She will be greatly missed by many.

whether bowling, playing 500, sipping amaretto and so much more, Sandy knew how to have fun. I saw far too little of Dave and Sandy these last few years but the memories of the good times don't fade. Dave, Matt and Keli, know that you were well loved and that you now have a guardian angel looking after you and the grandchildren. God bless!

Sending loving thoughts, comfort and prayers to an amazing family. Sandy always kept a special eye out for my kids at the Urbandale middle school. She always would have a moment to visit whenever I saw her. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. Remember all the joy and happiness she brought to each and everyone she meet and the special moments you all were lucky enough to experience so often with her! Love and comfort to the family.
