Jerald DeWayne Embrey

Jerald Embrey, 63, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was born July 23, 1954, in Perry, Iowa to William and Hazel (Justice) Embrey. After high school, Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He joined the work force and spent years working for Armstrong Tire, then retiring from American Can/Bemis.

Jerry was not all work and no play! He loved riding his Harley with his wife DeeAnn and spent countless hours cheering on his grandkids at their sporting events. He enjoyed bowling as well. Many Sunday afternoons were spent watching NASCAR races, cheering on Jimmie Johnson, and waiting for the checkered flag to be waived. Jerry also liked to spend the weekends relaxing and going camping.

He is survived by his wife, DeeAnn; daughter, Jennifer (Karl) Andrews; sons, Jeremie (Jessica) Embrey, Jason (Darci) Embrey, and Justin Embrey; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; niece, Debbie (Troy) Klinkerman; and sister, Jeannie (Dean) Poindexter.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom and John; sister in law, Sue; and niece, Annette.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2018, also at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be directed to the CLC 2 at Des Moines Veterans Hospital.
