Donald D. Doane

Donald D. Doane, 81, passed away July 20, 2018 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Donald was born December 16, 1936 in Des Moines to Delmar and Leona Doane.
He graduated from Lincoln High School, where he met the love of his life, Jane, in biology class. They were married in 1957. He served in the Air Force Reserve for eight years. Donald worked at John Deere for several years, then moved on to work in the maintenance department for Pioneer Hi-bred where he eventually retired in 1998.

He was an avid woodworker, enjoyed genealogy, reading – especially history books, and not too long ago purchased a tandem bike which he loved to ride with his wife. Donald also took on a project of building his very own ultra-light airplane and loved flying it any chance he could. Donald was a member of the Goldwing Motorcycle Club.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jane; daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Jarnagin, Laura (George) Woodall; grandchildren; Ben (Megan) Woodall, Luke Woodall, Elena Woodall, Brooke Doane, Kristin Jarnagin; great-grandchildren; Emmett, Rhya, Wesley; and a host of loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday July 25, 2018 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Donald.
