Oddis was born September 25, 1929 in Garrison, Iowa to Betty and Herman Myers. Oddis was married to Dorothy Mae Van Fleet in 1950 and they were married for 67 years until her passing in January, 2018.
Oddis was a proud Marine veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 0165 in Indianola, Iowa. He was a member of First Church of the Open Bible in Des Moines and was responsible for the beautiful Christmas lighting display for many years.

In addition, he held many part-time jobs at Wells Fargo Arena, the Knapp Center, Indianola car races and the Iowa State Fair.
Oddis enjoyed gardening, coin collecting, playing poker with his dear Legion friends, crossword puzzles, fishing, fixing “things”, watching westerns and sports events on TV, especially the Chicago Cubs and “tinkering” in his garage with his grandchildren when they were little.
Oddis’ dear wife Dorothy preceded him in death by six months. They are survived by their three daughters, Robin (Mike) Dailey of Carter Lake, Iowa, Renee (Jerry) Chiaramonte of Waukee, Iowa and Rhonda (Kerry) Anderson of Clive, Iowa. In addition, they enjoyed ten grandchildren, Brooke (Don) Wright, Jennifer (Ryan) Ruisch, Tony (Katie) Chiaramonte, Chris (Sarah) Chiaramonte, Danielle (Nick) McCulley, Lauren (Danny) Drewiske, Cole (Nicole) Lemon, Devin Anderson, Colin Anderson and Alex Anderson; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.
Oddis spent the last five months of his life at Legacy Pointe Assisted Living in Waukee, Iowa where he received wonderful care from a compassionate staff.
