Larry L. Sassman

Larry Sassman, 78, passed away at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa on July 5, 2018. He was born February 26, 1940, in Marathon, Iowa, to Marvin and Lorrene Sassman.

Larry and Mary owned and operated Mid Iowa Glass for 20 years. His sense of humor and generous, loving spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary; children, Sherry (Tim) Mills, Doug (Joy) Sassman, Mark Alan (Dr. Kent Krach) Sassman; grandchildren, Adam (Heather), Kelley (Brandon), Shawnna, Jerad, Molle, Grant, Kyle, Sydney; six great-grandchildren; mother, Lorrene; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin; and brothers, Jerry, Ron, and Steve.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Ankeny First United Methodist - Faith Chapel, 7384 NW 16th, in Ankeny. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 at Hamilton’s Near Highland Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family to go towards the Iowa Donor Network.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the caring staff of the University of Iowa Hospital, ICU, 4th floor for all their loving care and support.
