Bruce E. Loper

Bruce Edwin Loper, 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 6, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa to Carroll and Madge (Daugherty) Loper. He graduated from Tech High School and was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. Bruce served in the U.S. Navy for four years aboard the USS Cleveland as an engine mechanic. He was a heavy truck mechanic and welder working for City Garage for over 25 years.
Bruce loved his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and a crazy laugh. He will be lovingly remembered as a jack-of-all-trades, redneck handyman. He enjoyed comics and motorcycles, especially Harleys. He liked gardening, taking care of his lawn, cooking and sewing.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Loper; daughter, Lynann (Danny) Ruggero; step-sons, Chris Andersen and Tim (Christie) Griffis; three grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Madge Loper and his step-son, Dennis Griffis.
Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Bruce.
