Margaret "Maggie" Lucille Martin

Margaret “Maggie” Lucille Martin, 91, passed away July 4, 2018. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines and the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 1627 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines, IA.

Maggie was born February 5, 1927 in Davenport, IA to Lucille (Miller) and Richard Fries. Maggie completed nursing school and married, James Lee Madison. She was primarily a homemaker and worked part-time as a private duty nurse for private residents. After her children were grown, and her husband’s passing, Maggie worked for Mercy Hospital in Des Moines until retirement. In her 50’s, she returned to school at the College of St. Francis in Illinois and graduated with her Bachelor’s degree.

In her free time, Maggie enjoyed traveling, gardening, and had a strong faith.

Maggie is survived by her daughters, Lynn Laws and Robin Madison; son, Alan (Iris) Madison; sister, Geraldine (Richard) Fischlein; grandchildren, Summer, Nick (Rachel), Margot (Phil), Trevor (Josee), Maggie (Aaron), and Stephanie (Buddy); great-grandchildren, Katy, Miranda, Runic, Rowan, Marina, Kai, and Cosima. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, James Lee Madison, James Harvey Adelman, and John “Jack” William Martin; and her sister, Lorraine Burroughs.
