Carroll Shipley
June 25, 2018
Carroll Shipley passed away on June 25, 2018, in Des Moines. He was born March 10, 1946, in Des Moines, IA, to Derrell and Arlene (Hill) Shipley.
Carroll considered himself a wealthy man. The love he exhibited as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle & friend is what made him rich at heart. He had a beautiful spiritual heart and enjoyed every moment spent with his family & friends.
Carroll was a proud member of the east-side and the Fairgrounds community where he lived his entire life. Other than his family, some of his fondest memories are those made at the Fairgrounds where he coached & acted as president of the little league for several years. Carroll met many of his life-long friends during that time as well as the time he worked for the electrical department during the Iowa state fair. This community left a huge imprint on Carroll as well as he on it.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Carroll “Bud” (Jackie) Shipley Jr., Harry (Traci) Shipley, Sheila Shipley, Jameson Shipley, Justan (Neme) Shipley; former spouse Denice Shipley; brothers Brian (Lona) and Kevin (Dixie) Mandel; sisters Garnita and Rochelle; 10 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters, family friend Harleen Hedrick, his beloved dog Russell and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his; daughter Elizabeth, parents and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Celebration of life service will begin at 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2018 also at the funeral home. A private burial of cremains will take place later.

He always treated me with respect and was quick with a joke. I will miss his stories of growing up with his sisters. I hope he is sitting with his brothers and sisters again. Laughing and having a good time like the did here! Love ya Uncle!

They broke the mold with Carroll. We had some unsavory laughs and loved to hear his stories. Most of the stories, unfortunately, I can't repeat. I have a particular story in mind, and can see him telling me the story now, smiling and barely containing a laugh.
I will miss you Carroll.
