Charlotte Lee Powell

Charlotte Lee Powell, 86, of Des Moines, Iowa, died peacefully in her sleep on June 18, 2018, at Edencrest Riverwoods, assisted living facility in Des Moines. She was born to Ralph and Ruth Loyd on March 8, 1932.
Charlotte graduated from East High School in June, 1950. Her yearbook quote: “A rose without a thorn, Charlotte was a lady born.” Her yearbook ambition: “To be liked by all and loved by one,” which she was until the day she died.
She married the love of her life, William Noah Powell on November 17, 1950. They had recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. She lost the love of her life to cancer on January 29, 2018.
Charlotte followed Bill to Louisville, Kentucky, where he served in the Army at Fort Knox. She waitressed at Noah’s Ark and worked for Central Life Assurance, until retirement.
Charlotte and her late husband Bill were greeters at Grace Church for many years and met many friends through Christian fellowship. Charlotte and her late husband loved and served the Lord their entire marriage. Their first date was church, their second date was to the Iowa State Fair, a tradition they carried until health no longer allowed them to attend.
Charlotte and her late husband Bill loved getting on their Harley and riding across the United States, they enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona. They enjoyed boating, fishing and camping with family and friends throughout their marriage. They met many lifelong friends through their stint in the army, in their Good Sam Camping group and their winters in Arizona.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter Luanne (George) Brendlinger, her son Mark (Soon) Powell, and her brother Allen (Connie) Loyd. She is survived by her three grandchildren; Steven Sellers, Shannon (Gary) McIntire, and Matt Powell as well as a great grandchild, Caleb Brendlinger. Charlotte was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Ruth (Mitchell) Loyd and her brother Gordon Loyd.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Grace Church in loving memory of Charlotte.

We were good friends with your folks through Good Sam...they were both the most fun loving couple anyone would want to meet...we enjoyed our camping and fellowship with them very much....so sorry for your loss and God Bless..
