Betty "Boop" Smith

Betty Lou Smith, 86, passed away June 18, 2018, at her home in Elkhart. She was born April 6, 1932, to Harold and Gracie Smith.

Betty was born and raised on a farm in Keokuk County near Hedrick, Iowa. Later in life, she moved to the Des Moines area where she was welcomed in to and adopted by the Calhoun family.

Betty worked for and retired from Pioneer Hybrid after many years of service. Her greatest passion was working with her niece and training their bearded collies and shelties to be show dogs. She also enjoyed being outdoors and working in her garden.

Betty is survived by her loving niece, Debra Calhoun, her sister, Marylin Myler of Bloomfield, Iowa, and the Calhoun family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Gracie.
