Robert "Bob" Evans 1306
June 09, 2018
Most people say a picture is worth a thousand words. We could use 10,000 words and that would not be enough to describe this wonderful man, Bob Evans: son, big brother, uncle, husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and best friend to many.
Bob was one to always greet everyone with a hug and a smile. He knew no strangers. Never at a loss for words, Bob was always up for a good laugh and loved telling jokes. There was no age discrimination in his shenanigans—just ask his little sisters and grandchildren.
Bob married Rita Nesler in 1955 and they shared 37 wonderful years together and had two beautiful daughters, Jodi and Kari. Rita passed away in 1993 and Bob got a second chance at love when he married Sharon Hahn in 2006 and welcomed Sharon's daughter Kristi as one of his own. Sharon and Bob enjoyed traveling together, including trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas, where they actually got married and then surprised their family with the news. They were also fans of simple pleasures like watching horse races at Prairie Meadows and watching the sunset on Saylorville Lake while holding hands.
Bob was a special man and unique in many ways. He served our country in the Navy on the U.S.S. St. Paul. He was softball coach to his daughters, an avid tennis player and fierce competitor, a super duper cheerleader for his grandchildren, and a diehard Minnesota Vikings fan. Bob loved to dance and his math skills were beyond amazing. Do you know anyone else who can count by 17s? Bob was also an animal lover to all kinds of furry, and not so furry, pets. He was the ultimate role model to us all.
Bob was born in Minnesota on February 16, 1932 and on June 9, 2018, joined his parents, Ralph and Gladys Evans; loving first wife, Rita Evans; son-in law, Denny Cameron; daughter, Kari Teagarden; grandson, Shane Teagarden; and sister, Geraldine Evans.
Still laughing at his jokes are his wife, Sharon Evans; sisters, Janet Rose, Janice Sohn, and Mary Jo Zumwalt; daughters, Jodi Cameron and Kristi Koch; son-in-law, Joel Teagarden; grandchildren, Michael (Kelli) Cameron, Stephanie (Justin) Andersen, Austin Teagarden, Andrea Cameron, Logan Teagarden, Chloe Teagarden, Alesia Archer, Karen Bush Frommelt; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Blake Cameron, Owen and Payton Andersen, and Cameron, Lily, and Tessa Teagarden.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, Minnesota Vikings gear or tennis attire is encouraged for both services. Please no flowers or plants. If you desire, make donations to the Animal Rescue League and tell a joke—or two—to your loved ones.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, in West Des Moines, IA with visitation on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and the funeral service on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.

After twenty years of playing cut and slice tennis with Bob and being amazed at his humor at every spoken word, I moved to SC. This morning, I finally found his obituary and confirmed the.death of my friend. I've missed him for almost a decade. I imagine Bob's spirit drifting to one of the new planets we are finding hundreds of light years in space. In my recent short story it is a place where people have three legs, three arms, three eyes, etc.; a place Bob might be loving. (If only my work of fiction was real. :) My best to all Bob's family including that tall kindergarten teacher who Bob talked about every week and his new wife who he loved passionately. I loved him. Bob, you lived a wonderful life and spent your last years in the company of another very special person. You now get to gaze at and laugh at all of us who are still down here. Although a Packer fan, I will choose a game to wear the Purple and Gold in your honor. See you later, Bob, save your best joke for when we meet again.
