Virginia Hauge

Virginia Elizabeth Hauge, 93, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Mill Pond Care Center in Ankeny, where she was a resident for one and one-half years.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
Virginia was born May 3, 1915 in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended Oak Park Elementary, Warren Harding Jr. High and graduated from Des Moines North High in1933. After high school she attended the American Institute of Business (AIB). She worked as a secretary until her marriage to Gerhard S. Hauge (Gus) December 30, 1941.
She was a very caring mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved reading, playing cards, travel, bass fishing with family, luncheons, coffee and shopping with her friends. Her favorite places were Cedar Lake, Younkers and the beauty shop. She was a dedicated fan of the Hawkeyes & Chicago Cubs (Cubbies).
Virginia is survived by her son, Gary (Madonna) Hauge of Ankeny; daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Lester) Hughes of Wilmington, Delaware; 4 grandchildren, Mindy, Berton, Jessica and Noah; 2 great-grandchild, 2 great-grand twins due in September, 4 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bert Otto Spear and mother, Hazel Elizabeth Spear; brother, Elwin Bert Spear and husband, Gerhard Stanford Hauge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mill Pond Retirement Community Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa, where she received such kind and wonderful care.
