Service Details

Madeline L. Payton, 84, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Mercy Hospital. A funeral service will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery.
Madeline was born February 5, 1924 to Roy A. and Edith L. Murphy in Exline, Iowa. She attended East High School and worked several years for Sears & Roebuck. Madeline also worked in the cafeteria for the Des Moines Public Schools. She attended her grandchildrens’ sporting events, many school and church functions. Madeline enjoyed sewing, camping outdoors, cooking, following God’s word, and volunteering at Chesterfield Community Center. She was a regular Texas snowbird.
Madeline was loved by her family and many friends. She was a member of Eastwood Church of the Open Bible; Order of the Eastern Star; and supported Union Park Independent Christian Church.
Madeline is survived by her son, Larry Payton; grandchildren, Lisa (Tom) Davis, Lonnie (Tina) Payton, and Luke (Courtney) Payton; great-grandchildren, Tommy and Michelle Davis, Tiffany (Derek) Deaton, Brittany Stephen, Kelsee, Preston, Blayze, and Jaxon, all Payton; great-great grandson, Johnathon Davis and two great-great grandchildren on the way; sister, Ruth Gibbel, all of Des Moines; brother, Carroll Murphy of Osceola; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lorenzo “Bud” Payton; brothers, Buster, Earl, and Marion Murphy; and grandson, Lance Payton.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
