Karen Marie Miklus, 65, passed from this life Monday, July 14, 2008 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Karen was born on August 2, 1942.
Karen fought a courageous seven month battle with cancer. Throughout this time, she maintained her strong, positive spirit and sense of humor which comforted everyone her life touched.
After 40 years of service, Karen retired from Principal Financial Group. Never one to remain idle, she rejoined the work world part time as a kindergarten associate at Cornell Elementary. Karen loved to shop, looking for antiques with her girlfriends, baking, lunching with friends and family, knitting, and most of all time spent with her grandchildren. Karen was a member of the Auburn Chapter of Eastern Star.
She is survived by husband, Joe; daughter, Cindy Hicks (Buddy); sons, Joe Miklus II and Michael Miklus (Anita); grandchildren, Alexander, Christopher, Gabriel, Kaitlyn, Mackenzie, Joe III, Ada, Allajah and Mikey Miklus and brother, Eldon Emmack (Marion).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Harriett Emmack and sister, Carol.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines; burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. Family will visit with friends from 5 to 8 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Taylor House in loving memory of Karen.

My prayers are with all of Karen's family. I worked with this wonderful lady for many years at Principal. She always made me laugh and could always find humor in most situations. I could count on Karen to cheer me up on those days when I needed it most. Heaven became a richer place this week when they gained this angel.

I worked with Karen for many years at Principal Residential Mortgage. I thought she was a wonderful lady and enjoyed working with her over the years. She had a bright, cheerful personality and was always upbeat and happy. She was a sweet person and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in your family.
