Joy Gordon

Joy Gordon of Des Moines died early Thursday morning, December 21, 2006, at Hospice of Central Iowa - Kavanagh House on 56th Street.
Services will be Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street with a memorial reception immediately following in Hamilton’s Family Services Center. The burial is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2600 Muscatine Ave. Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation for the public will start at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the start of the service.
Mrs. Gordon was born January 17, 1922 in Iowa City to Martin L. Hoyt and Nettie Smith Hoyt. She was married to James Alex Gordon and lived in various places in the United States before settling in Des Moines in about 1960. Joy was a manager for the US Treasury for many years. During WW II she worked for the War Department while residing in Washington D.C.
Joy is survived by her two sons; Robert E. Leonard of Morgan City, LA and Edward M. Leonard, Jr. of Des Moines; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, one grandchild and one great grandchild.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to the family in care of Hamilton’s, 605 Lyon St. Des Moines, Iowa 50309.
