Service Details

Donald E. Hutchings, 94, passed away Sunday June 22nd, in Sun City, Az. A memorial service will be held at Indianola Heights Christian Church, S.E. 8th & Park Avenue in Des Moines, on July 11th at 7:00 P.M. Burial of Don’s cremains has been completed in Sun City.
Don was born September 30, 1913 to Charles & Gertrude Hutchings in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1931, and Simpson College. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was employed by the Iowa State Department of Transportation prior to his involvement in founding Hawkeye Securities in Des Moines, Iowa, where he became Vice President of Policies & Procedures.
Don’s love for fine antiques made him a national authority on the subject and his devotion to The Arabian Horse Association brought him honors and pride. Don was Secretary/Treasurer for the National Arabian Horse Association, and its Iowa Chapter for many years. Don was also the proud co-owner of Tootsie-Tike, a Scottish terrier, who was voted “Best In Show” of the 1950 Westminster Kennel Club at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Don was a very generous benefactor to many local, national and international charities through out his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles, George, Harold (Bill) and William, sisters Beulah and Mary Ann, and Gil Haake. Nieces, nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews survive Don as well as Doug Brown of Phoenix, Arizona, Gilberto Borrego of British Columbia, and Sorl Thun of Des Monies whom he mentored.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Indianola Heights Christian Church – Don Hutchings Memorial in lieu of flowers.
