Lorene James

Lorene James, 73, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2018 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born on October 20, 1944 in Bristow, Oklahoma the oldest sister to two brothers, Jonney Jones and the Rev. Larry Jones. At the age of 10 she lost her mother and was sent to Muskogee, OK to be raised alongside her brother, 15 aunts and uncles and her first cousin by her Grandmother Irene Green. Lorene developed a close and loving bond with her Aunt Betty Green and her cousin Patsyanne Porter.

Lorene went to Mannel Training High School in Muskogee and later moved to Aurora, Illinois. In 1978 she gave birth to her baby girl, Quinta James which prompted her to relocate back to Muskogee. At the age of 35 she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Lorene had a strong love of cooking and decided to attend cooking school to further her interest. She also worked part time as a Certified Nursing Assistant. In 1994, Lorene became the guardian of the love of her life, her grandson, Jacorey James. Continuing to raise him, they relocated to Des Moines in 1999 where she became a faithful member of Our Savior’s Baptist Church until health issues arose.

Left to cherish memories of Lorene are her brother, Rev. Larry Jones; daughter, Quinta James; two grandsons, Jacorey and Marvin James; granddaughter, Tamara Dillwood; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins from Muskogee, OK. She was preceded in death by her mother, brother, Jonney Jones, Aunt Betty Green, Cousin Patsyanne Porter and all of her uncles and aunts.
