Mary A. Duncan

Mary Audrey Duncan, age 91, passed away May 24, 2018 at Calvin Community in Des Moines, her home for 5 years.
A celebration of her life will be held in July when all family members will be home.
Mary was born May 17, 1927 in Bloomington, Illinois to Leonard and Catherine (Lavin) Metzner. She married Lewis F. Duncan in Bloomington, IL and together they had 8 children. In 1950, with two children in tow, they moved to Des Moines to start a business, Colonial Cleaners. Mary was a Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout leader, active in Altar and Rosary Society at her church, and busy raising 7 children.
In later years, she and Lew enjoyed working together at Colonial Cleaners and spending many winters in Tucson, Arizona. They also enjoyed playing tennis, golf, sailing, and traveling.
Mary is survived by her children, Linda (Dick) Ryan, Kathy (Louis) Foggia, David (Monty), Kay (Randy Wear), Tim (Nancy Hotchkiss), Sue (Russ) Conn, and Jeff (Rebecca); 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; son, Christopher; parents; sister, Eleanor Gillen; brothers, Leonard Jr., Paul, Ralph, and Albert.

I am sorry about the passing of Mary. I spoke with her at Calvin a couple of times. She mentioned that she had worked at a music store, back in Illinois. I enjoyed speaking with her, and I am glad I met her.
