Wendell Griffiths

Wendell S. “Griff” Griffiths, 84, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Griff was born on March 5, 1924 in Cromwell, Iowa to Blanche and Thomas Griffiths.
Griff served in the Army from 1942-1945. He was proud to earn the qualification of a P51 fighter pilot during his service. In 1945 after his honorable discharge, he moved to Des Moines. On September 16, 1946 Griff married Lucile Forrest. Griff retired form Ginsburg Furniture Store after many years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lucile; children: Connie Turner of Florida, Nancy (James) McCriskin of Illinois and Rhonda (David) Giacomarra of Florida; grandchildren, Brendan (Michele), Dawn, Katie and Scott; great granddaughter, Kaitlyn; sisters, Marguerite Trusty of Creston, IA and Harriett Campbell of Adel, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Herman Griffiths (March 2008).
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines. Family will visit with friends one hour prior to service at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be made to any charity of donor’s choice in loving memory of Griff. Griff was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
