Terry Eugene Hobt, 77, passed away May 16, 2018. Services will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
Terry was born May 7, 1941 in Des Moines, IA to Gretchen (Clow) and Murrell Hobt. He graduated from East High School in 1959 and then served in the military for 42 years. First with the Marine Corps and later with the Army Reserves until 2001. He attained his Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and served with the Des Moines Police Department for 15 years and the Polk County Sheriff’s Department for 10 years. He retired in 1990 on disability due to a heart attack.
In 2000, Terry and Sharon moved to Florida. Terry enjoyed collecting guns, coins and WWII memorabilia; scouting with his metal detector, and attending gun shows and ranges. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, the National Rifle Association, the Marine Corps League and the Lutheran church.
Terry will be deeply missed by his wife of 41 years, Sharon Hobt; children, Suzi (Ted) Loeffelholz, Tony Pratt, Brandi (Calvin) Muelhaupt, Kris (Brittney) Hobt; ten grandchildren; sister, Marion (Bill) Pasut; and his best friend, Larry Stougard. Terry was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Gabriel Hobt; and siblings, Murrell, George, Richard and Barb.
