Floyd Koons

Floyd Edward Koons, Sr., 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends Friday, July 4, 2008 at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Berean Assembly of God Church with burial to follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Indianola.
Floyd was born November 22, 1940 in Osceola, Iowa, the son of Naomi Koons-Toms and Hiram Toms. He and his brother, Don, were adopted shortly thereafter by his grandparents, Wesley and Alice Koons, as his mother died unexpectedly. Floyd worked as a forklift operator and a bus driver for many years. He most recently worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart and enjoyed the people he met and worked with.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sandra Koons; his son, Donald (Melody) Koons of Dallas, Oregon; his daughter, Rhonda (Bill) Dick of Lakeland, Florida; six grandchildren; brother, Donald (Sue) Koons of Fairdale, Kentucky; sister, Ella (Franc) Stevens of Murray, Iowa; many cousins, including John Schoer of Des Moines and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his faithful dog, Dolly. Floyd was preceded in death by his infant son, Floyd E. Koons, Jr.; his parents and grandparents.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish a fund in Floyd’s memory.
