Chad Swigart
May 07, 2018
Chad Swigart, 40, passed away May 7, 2018, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 5, 1978, in Des Moines to Joel and Martha Swigart.
Chad was very well skilled at playing many instruments, but he was most passionate about the drums and saxophone; loved collecting comic books and attending Comiccon, especially with his daughter, Wren. He enjoyed geocaching and loved going to Monster Truck Rallies. Chad was an Elite Yelper for the last 3 years and loved reviewing a wide variety of businesses and especially being rewarded with free goodies. He was a drummer in several local bands and was an avid Chiefs fan. Chad and Katie’s first wedding anniversary was spent cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. His kids are his WHOLE world, he is the best Daddy ever. Chad was always so involved in their life and activities. He was a member of a car club for many years and enjoyed tinkering on cars, electronics and computers. He never met a stranger and could talk for hours, whether he had just met you or known you his whole life. He had a heart of gold, but above all else he treasured time spent with his family, especially his children and his beautiful wife.
Chad is survived by his loving wife, Katie Swigart; children, Wren and Mannix Swigart; parents, Marty and Joel Swigart; sister, Sara (Eric) Neil; niece and nephew, Alona and Braedey Neil; parents-in-law, Charles and Jeanine Ecklund; brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Catherine Ecklund; nephew and niece, Jack and Lilia Ecklund; as well as other loving family and countless friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Friday, May 11, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, May 12th at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Chad.
