Coral R. Jones
May 05, 2018
Coral R. Jones, 96, passed away on May 5, 2018. She was born September 14, 1921 to Harry and Becky (McIntosh) Frakes. She grew up in Bondurant, Iowa with her siblings, Bill Frakes, Margaret (Frakes) Justice, Pearl (Frakes) Efnor, Donna (Frakes) Speas and Dorothy (Frakes) Hayes. July 3, 1942 she was united in marriage to Boyd Jones. Together they had four children, Pat Jones, Carole (Jones) Weaver, Mark Jones and Scott Jones. After Boyd’s untimely death, Coral moved her family to Altoona, where she has been a resident for more than 50 years.
Over the years, Coral has been active in her community by participating in Eastern Star and at one point held the Worthy Matron position, which is one of the most prestigious offices held in the chapter. Coral has a love for children which led her to become a bus driver for Southeast Polk for 35 years. Once retired, she continued to support the SEP community by volunteering at Willowbrook and Clay Elementary for 15 years, cutting, putting together booklets and anything else the teachers needed. She spent several years working at Adventureland Park in the uniform room and also sat on the Altoona election board providing assistance to those coming in to cast their votes.
Coral has always been one to keep busy; she has enjoyed many hobbies over the years. She loved to garden and craft. Through the years, she became a master seamstress, sewing quilts, making and mending clothing for her children and grandchildren and even sewing clothes for her doll collection. Speaking of her doll collection, it wasn’t just any collection; the dolls were hand made by Coral. They were hand painted, fired in a kiln, strung and dressed for any occasion. One of her creations won her a 3rd place ribbon at the Iowa State Fair.
She is survived by her children, Carole Weaver, Mark (Dawn) and Scott (Susan) Jones; 9 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Speas; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Coral was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd; son, Patrick; siblings, Pearl Efnor, Margaret Justice, Dorothy Hayes and Bill Frakes; and her parents.
Memorial services will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St. SW, Altoona. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will follow services at Bondurant Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Altoona Senior Center and Eastern Star No. 284 – Altoona.

We had so much fun riding your Mom's school bus! My Dad was proud of her also. She treated all of us students as one of her own. You all have my sympathies! Will keep you in my prayers for strength to get through this loss.

This sweet lady was our wonderful neighbor for many years. Her school bus parked in her drive was part of the community. She also helped me get my school bus job at South East Polk . Last time I saw her I was able to give her a kiss on the cheek and tell her I loved her, but that was not before, she asked about everyone in my family. She will be missed. We will not be able to attend services Saturday, but to the family- Love from the Pickett's

Remembering one of the sweetest and most genuine ladies I have known. Coral was a super SEP bus driver for so many years and loved those kids like they were her own. Her discipline was outstanding! God;s blessings to all of her family as she loved each and everyone of them and was a very proud mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
