Erma Florine Travis

Erma Florine Travis, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Medicalodge of Douglass, Kansas on July 2, 2008. The family will receive friends on Tuesday July 8th from 6 to 8 PM. The funeral will be held Wednesday July 9th at 2:00 PM. The visitation and funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut Street, Ankeny, Iowa. Following services, the body will be donated to the University of Iowa for medical research.
Florine is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and May McConnell, her three brothers, Don, Wilmer and Lauren McConnell and her loving husband of 58 years, Leslie H. Travis.
She is survived by her sister Enid Holscher and two brothers, Gwen and Larry McConnell. Additionally, she is survived by her three children: Marilyn (Jim) Turner of Rose Hill, Kansas, Linda (Del) Anderson of Otsego, Michigan and Marc Travis of Ankeny, Iowa, 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Florine was born December 4th, 1915 in Hebron, Nebraska. Following their marriage in 1934, she and Leslie lived most of their adult lives in Ankeny, Iowa raising their three children. In 1972, Florine retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Company after 21 years of service as an Engineer Assistant. Shortly thereafter, they moved into their retirement home on Lake Panarama in Panora, Iowa where she and Leslie enjoyed gardening, boating, bridge, golf and MOST OF ALL, entertaining their grandchildren.
