Esther Morris

Esther Elvera (Gee) Morris was born August 30, 1926, at their family home, 2003 Delaware Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa, to LaMont E. and Mabel A. (Meline) Gee. She was the middle child of 13 children. Esther was a graduate of East High School. Her first job was as a secretary for Younkers. Esther and her husband, Morrie owned the successful Tucker Box restaurant in Hannah, Wyoming for over 20 years. In addition to Iowa and Wyoming, Esther and Morrie called Australia home for one year. Family was Esther’s greatest love. She had fond memories of singing with her siblings around the piano. Singing was one of her favorite pastimes. Her interests also included gardening and flowers, making photo collages, and cooking.

Esther passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at the age of 91.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jeane Copsin, sisters, Eleanor Uehling and Nancy Evans, brother, Larry Gee, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Guy “Morrie” Morris, son, Mike Copsin, six sisters and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018, followed by urn burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Because of Esther’s love of flowers, flowers and plants are welcome, but contributions may also be directed to Paralyzed Veterans of America.
