Darrell L. Leaming was born September 14, 1937 in Albany, Oregon to Cyrus R. and Margie (Miller) Leaming. Darrell passed away from complications due to a head injury he suffered in 1986. From 2001 until his death on June 25. 2008, he resided at Altoona Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Altoona, Iowa
Darrell served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963 as a gunner’s mate aboard the U.S.S. Albany. He was employed as a sales representative for various companies throughout his adult life. He enjoyed coaching baseball at Raccoon Valley Little League for 10 years.
Darrell leaves behind his ex-wife and best friend, Judith Leaming; his daughter, Kulli (Eric) Bloom of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Cierra and Sophia Bloom; brothers, David R. Leaming of Des Moines, Paul M. (Juanita) Leaming of Broken Arrow, OK and James (Judith) Foulk of Denver, CO; sisters, Darlene (Tim) Kuntz of Pulaski, VA and Mary Rodriquez of Cokedale, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Woodward Cemetery in Woodward, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or Grace United Methodist Church.
