Josephine Peterson

Josephine Rose Giannasi Peterson was born on August 17, 1918 to Angelo and Serafina Giannasi in Carney, Iowa. Jo passed away on June 17, 2008, after a long illness just two months prior to her 90th birthday.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Grandview Lutheran Church, 2930 E 13th Street, Des Moines; burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will visit with friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2008, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.
Jo was a long time member of Grandview Lutheran Church. She worked at Katz Drug Store in Park Fair until 1973. After that she was employed at Ardan’s until her retirement in 1980. Jo was a charter member of the Perry Fraternal Order of Eagles. Jo enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, reading and baking cookies and breads for her family during the holidays.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb and sisters, Menga Thompson, Clara Donati, Sunta Brugioni, Mae Ballantini, Violet Ballantini, Mary Warren and Lena Young.
Jo is survived by her daughter, Pam (Larry) Hanshaw; son, Dick (Linda) Peterson; granddaughters, Deanne Plew and Dana Plew; grandsons, Andrew Hanshaw, Tony Peterson and Troy (Tiffany) Peterson; great-grandson, Bryce Plew and many nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation or Heart Foundation in loving memory of Jo.
