Larry Jon Coon, 58, of Frederick, Colorado died peacefully in his home on April 12, 2008.
He was born August 29, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa as the youngest child and only son to Kenneth V. and Stella O. (Olson) Coon. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in June, 1967. In January, 1972 he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa, where he was also a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
In 1969 he met his first wife, Catherine McCallum, and they celebrated the birth of their daughter, Jennifer Lyn, on June 23, 1970. Larry met his second wife, Nancy Howard, in 1977 and they married in July, 1979. He met his third wife, Rhonda Varnum, in 1990 and they married in March, 1994. Larry served as a Reserve Officer in the United States Army, where he attained the rank of Captain before being discharged in January, 1980. He enjoyed a successful 27-year career as a Sales Engineer with 3E in Des Moines. Since retiring in the summer of 2001 he had pursued his favorite hobbies of golf, snow skiing, sailing, shooting skeet, and traveling the country first from his residence in Reno, Nevada, and most recently from Colorado.
Larry was preceded in death by his second wife, Nancy Howard, and is survived by his first wife, Catherine McCallum and their daughter, Jennifer Lyn Coon, 37, both of California, by his third wife Rhonda Varnum of Van Meter, and by his sisters Sandra Sipiora of El Paso and Linda Dailey of Seattle, along with many good friends and extended family.
He was beloved by many and will be missed. A life celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa.
