Joseph Anthony Minnehan
April 26, 2018
Joseph “Joe” Minnehan, 52, passed away at his home April 26, 2018 after a long battle with mental illness.
Joe was born May 13, 1965 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was adopted by Paul and Leona Minnehan on May 18, 1965. He graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll, Iowa. Joe attended Iowa State University where he met his wife Michelle. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Drake University. Joe worked in IT for many years, including the past five years where he worked in the IT department at Wells Fargo. Joe was an avid golfer and worked part-time at West Grand Golf, a job he dearly loved. He was a long time member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he played piano at the 7:30 a.m. mass for many years.
Joe is survived by his wife of 25 years, Michelle; daughters, Sarah and Katie; birth mom, Sue Guarill Krebs; Luke and Kristine Krebs and family, Katie and Chris Morton and family; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Joseph; parents, Paul and Leona Minnehan; and Sue’s husband, Ed Krebs.
Although he had a difficult battle, we would like everyone to remember Joe for his great sense of humor, love of politics, passion for music, especially the Beatles, and his enthusiasm for golf and Iowa State basketball.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.
Suicide is not an easy subject to address. Joe’s family and friends want you to know there is help. Please reach out to your loved ones or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255.
Memorial contributions may directed to the family for Sarah and Katie’s education fund.

I worked and played many rounds of golf with Joe as an employee at West Grand Golf.
If only Joe could have known how intimately he touch each of our lives with his smile and intellect. We at West Grand will only find voids in our hearts for his passing and only wonder if we could only have done more to help him with his struggles in life.
His passing is only a reminder of how precious we are to each other as family and friends.
We all loved you Joe and will miss you.

Through my time at West Grand Golf I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a great deal of time with Joe over the years. He was always able to smile and to make those around him smile! He knew more customers by name than anyone else and many of them would ask about him on his days off. I always looked forward to the days with Joe at the range. He had a great deal of faith in the Lord, and we had many long conversations about specific political issues and about religion. I am very sorry so find out that he is no longer with us. My prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time. He will be missed by many. He was a good man.

Michelle, Sarah, and Katie, you are in my prayers. My heart broke when I heard of Joes passing. I will cherish the many fond memories of playing music with Joe at church. More often than not, we ended up laughing almost as much as we made music (sometimes we even laughed in the middle of a song!!!). I will remember Joe as a talented musician with a great sense of humor, a good friend, and someone who always spoke highly of his family. I offer my continued prayers, love and support to all of you
