Richard “Richie” Tyrone Galvan Jr., 50, of Des Moines passed away on Wednesday morning, April 25, 2018 at Taylor House surrounded by his loved ones.
Richie was born on December 15, 1967, in Des Moines to Rita (Campero) and Richard Galvan Sr. He was a family man and adored his parents in which he had a special bond with each of them. He was a hard worker and longtime member of Local 177 Laborers Union.
Richie had a love of boxing which came from his dad and his uncles. He made his professional debut at the age of 27. He began boxing at the age of 9 and competed in the Silver Gloves, Junior Olympics and in the Iowa Golden Gloves.
One of his greatest joys was coaching his sons, nephews, and cousins in all sports. If he wasn’t coaching his sons, he was their biggest fan.
Those left to mourn his passing are his parents, Richard and Rita; sons, Richard III and Brady; daughter, Mackenzie Reynolds; sister, Michelle Galvan; nephews, Dimitrious, Donovan, Niko and Anthony; nieces, Rami, Nautica and Serenity; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony; maternal grandparents, Nick and Margaret Campero; paternal grandparents, Chris and Emily Galvan.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm with the Rosary prayed at 7 pm Monday, April 30, 2018 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday, May 1st at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Cuz these past 2-3 yrs we started talking and getting close like family should laughing and joking around. I'm really going to miss that but most of all I'm going to miss you and your smiling face and hearing your laughter. I kno your better now where you are and your still surrounded by family. Give our love to all of them as well you all are greatly missed and loved. R I P Cuz.
