Jean Volz

Jean Volz was born on June 8, 1925 in Waukee, Iowa to Harmon and Myrtle College. She passed away on April 23, 2018 at Fountain West, where she was lovingly cared for and surrounded by family, at the age of 92.
Jean graduated from Earlham High School. She was co-owner of B & J Nuts for many years. Jean was a member of Southgate Eastern Star, the Red Hat Society and a 50 year member of Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church. She and her husband Bill spent 30 years enjoying their summers in Clear Lake. Jean was a wonderful entertainer, hostess and cook.
Jean is survived by her son, Larry (Paula) Hylbak; daughter, Sherri (Dave) Little; grandchildren, Kindra (Steve) Chen, Krista (Wes) Hylbak, Eric Little and Nicole (Greg) Clark; and great-grandchildren, Danica, Colin, Keaton and Ethan Chen.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill and her son, Danny.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by inurnment at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church or Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Jean was my mother's best friend in high school. As kids, we loved it when Jean and Bill visited us in Earlham because they always brought a watermelon! My sincerest condolences to Larry and Sherri and their families.

My heart goes out to Volz family. Jean was an inspiration to us all! She had an amazing zest for life and lived it. She was the Queen of Hearts, always in our hearts. Rest in peace, not Jean. The party continues!

Jean was very special to me. Growing up across the street I probably saw her everyday. We had so fun fun over the years.
She will be missed. I'm so happy she had such a long and great life.
She can now be back with Bill and Danny.
So sorry we are so far away, but I am sending Hugs to Sherri and Larry and the entire family.
