Evelyn Engleman

Evelyn Mary Engleman died June 9th 2008 at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab Center. Visitation will be at 11 AM Thursday with the funeral service beginning at 12 PM Thursday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial to follow at Sunset Cemetery.
Evelyn was born April 1, 1920 in Cowanesque, PA to Leona and Lewis Metcalf and moved to Des Moines in 1946. Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper throughout her life for several local businesses. Evelyn had many interests, she was an avid reader, and collected stamps, postcards, music boxes and bells. Evelyn was a gifted writer and wrote beautiful poetry and her own life story. Evelyn created many handmade gifts for her family and others. She crocheted afgans, created embroidered items and made many baby blankets for all of her grand children and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Sylvia Shafer of Carlisle and Jill Twiss of Des Moines; son, David (Peggy)Taylor of Carlisle; 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Evelyn was known by many and loved by all, she always had a smile to share with everyone. She will be greatly missed.
