I am so sad to hear of Joes passing. We had many laughs in band back in high school, and I was always so happy to hear how he turned his love of music into a career. My condolences to all his family, friends, and those he touched through music.

Mr. Turner was a great guy, even to kids that had no musical talent whatsoever. Hadn't seen him in a while and was so sad to hear the news. Friends and I all said that he will be remembered for the way he treated everyone, regardless of who you were or what your interests were. God bless.

My condolences on your loss. Joe was a fine man and taken from us way too soon. I knew him as a band director colleague and always had the highest regard for him and what he did as an educator. He will be missed.

I am sorry for your loss. Joe and I met through the Education Leadership program at Drake University. After a couple of classes together Joe asked me where I lived and I told him Beaverdale. After describing my home, Joe realized I lived in his grandfather's house. His face lit up as he shared stories of playing in the yard and around the house. Joe was a good guy, fun to be around and helped me grow as an educational leader. I will miss him.

Joe, you were one of those "good guys" of Baldwin Hall. Humor, smarts, kindness -- everyone in the music department at Truman benefitted from you. When I think of you, I smile. Thank you for the learning, laughs, great music, and frankly, your smiling tolerance of all our newsletter shenanigans! I will never not giggle in Home Depot or Lowe's. You are loved missed.

Turner Family; I was SO sad to read the IBA email of Joe's passing. I missed the opportunity to work with Joe because I've been retired too long, but know that the entire IBA family cares deeply and we are hugging you all tightly.

Jenny, Anderson and the entire Turner family, We send our deepest condolences to you at this time of loss. We got to know Joe early in his time as Jazz Orchestra director at Valley when we were Band Booster officers, and we loved working with him as much as the kids loved learning from him. He always had a smile for us when we saw him, even as recently as December. You will all be in our prayers.

My daughter had Mr. Turner for a teacher and really loved him. She is in 10th grade now and wrote this poem for him:
Ode to Mr. Turner
It shocks me how
Easy it is to change to the
Past tense
Was, not is
Loved, not loves
Every time I remember you are gone I
Break a little more
But I cant cry
Scream
Shake
But I still feel
So I play
My fingers dance
The music shakes
Screams
Cries
When I cannot
It only makes sense
You taught me
Now I play for you once more
Can you hear me?
