Service Details

Dorothy Gasperi Jobe, 83, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 8, 2008, after a brief illness. Funeral service will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 with visitation 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.
Dorothy retired from USWest Telephone Company and is a member of the Pioneer Club and Peace Lutheran Church. She was an active participant in the Southside Senior Center and enjoyed the friendships of many of her fellow seniors.
Dorothy Gasperi graduated from Lincoln High School in January 1942 and began her working career at the Rolin’s Hosiery Mill, later moving to Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a long distance operator. In 1944, she enlisted as a WAV in the Navy and was stationed in Salt Lake City, Utah where she met and married Clarence Jobe, Sr. The couple settled in Des Moines and raised a family of three, Clarence, Jr. (Laddie), Dorothy (Sissy), and David.
She was a devoted mother, staying at home to raise her children where she supported and participated in all their activities. Whether it was as Little League Team Mother, PTA member/officer or merely homeroom Mother, Dorothy was mom to many a southside kid. She returned to the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company after a lengthy absence and spent the remainder of her career working with retirees in the Pioneer office.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Clarence (2005), her granddaughter, Casey Bushman Young (1995), and a sister, Anita Riccelli of Spokane, WA. She is survived by her sons, Clarence Jobe, Jr. (wife Vonnie), and David H. Jobe, both of Des Moines; a daughter, Dorothy Bushman (husband David) of Glidden, IA. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Adam Jobe, Sally Jobe Ludwig, Kevin Ross, Michael Jobe, Sarah Foreman Burkhead, Beau Bushman, and Nick Bushman; and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and sister, David Gasperi and Amilia Garwick both of Des Moines and a brother John Gasperi of Oxnard, CA.
Memorials to the family will be used to purchase a special gift for the Southside Senior Center.
