Susan Ann Laffey

Susan A. Laffey, 50, of Runnells, IA passed away peacefully on April 4, 2018 after she fought a two year battle with colon cancer. Susan was born on February 27, 1968 in Des Moines, IA to Duane F. and Shirley (Rubel) Laffey.
Susan graduated from S.E. Polk High School and went to work at Altoona Hy-Vee. She worked there for 29 years, until her illness prevented her from doing so. She loved her job and enjoyed visiting with all the friends that she made there. However her greatest love was her dog, Gertie Francis Laffey.
Susan is survived by her mother, Shirley Laffey; siblings, Steve (Cara) Laffey of Runnells, Daren (Julie) Laffey of Runnells, Shawnda (Mark) Moore of Clive, and DJ (Carolyn) Laffey of Maxwell; nephews, Wade, Eric (Jenny), Patrick (Amber), Sean Laffey; Matt, Adam, Ryan (Haley) Laffey; Nolan Moore; Jared and Tyler Laffey; great-nieces, Addison Laffey and Layla Laffey; and a new great-niece due in August; and great-nephew, Arlo Laffey.
She was preceded in death by her father, Duane F. Laffey; sister, Sheryl Laffey; niece, Elizabeth Laffey; and her grandparents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday April 9, 2018 at Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church, 1401 1st Ave S, Altoona, with burial to follow at Powers-Warren Cemetery in Runnells. Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Taylor House for their care and support in Susan’s final days.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Ss John and Paul Catholic Church Building Fund in memory of Susan.

Susie will be greatly missed by so many. Her friendly disposition was an inspiration to us all. Always greeted us when we went to Hy-Vee in Altoona for breakfast.

We are so very saddened to hear the news about Susie. She was one of a kind and I was proud to call her my friend. Susie had such a beautiful soul and she never forgot a name. Dave and I always love our visits with her at Hy-Vee and at mass. We will be praying for all of you. God blessed us all with Susie.

I will miss Susie so much! I dont think Sue knew a stranger. Hy-Vee was so lucky to have her. Everyone there (employees as well as all the customers) Loved her.
I will miss seeing her at Mass on Saturday nights.
I Thank our Lord Jesus for letting me experience her friendship along with her kind & innocent soul.

So sorry to hear this. I will always Susie as being a caring person. Way back to when Patrick and Kandas modeled together. She always remembered me when I came into HyVee. She was a sweet lady. Prayers to the family for comfort.

So very sad to hear this - I always loved seeing Susie at HyVee. She always remembered me and had something to say about my kids or her nieces and nephews. What a kind soul. Hugs and prayers to all the Laffey's.

I remember working with Susie at Hy-Vee. I helped her with the cans and bottles and she showed me the ropes. She was always a hard worker and talked with anyone. Very sweet woman and sorry to hear of her passing.
