John Kufner, age 78, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. John was born on June 23, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa.

He graduated from Valley High School class of ‘58. John worked as a metal fabricator for Fawn Engineering for 47 years. He was an active member of the Democratic Party, Million Man March during the 80’s, and was the union secretary of UAW. John will be remembered as a religious man and a collector of many things.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deb; children, Michael (Joey) Morrison, Jodi Hughes, and Shantel (Josh) Pray; grandchildren, Seleena, Ryan, Sabrina, Shelby, Joplin, Jason, Brody, Ethan, Justice, Sophia, Cooper, Ella, and Gunnar; great-grandchild, Brice and one on the way; siblings, Joe (Joanne), Mary, Sally, David, Edward (Kim), Kenneth, and Karen; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Kufner; and sister, Dorothea.

Celebration of John’s Life will be held at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
