Emery Thompson
March 21, 2018
Emery Claire Thompson gained her heavenly angel wings on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in the arms of her loving parents. She was born April 1, 2016, daughter of Trent and Angie (Reid) Thompson. Emery was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma (cancer) at 5 weeks of age. Despite this diagnosis, Emery fought so hard and was a bright light in all of our lives. She beat cancer in December 2016, only to relapse on June 28, 2017. Emery spent the majority of the last 8 months of her life in and out of Stead Family Children’s Hospital at the University of Iowa with her family by her side. Despite all of the medical procedures and ups and downs of the disease taking over her body, Emery stayed so strong and was always dancing and happy. Emery was wise beyond her years and even learned to help with her “tubies.” Emery loved to FaceTime her “Bubba” (Ethan), sister (Ella), and Daddy every day. She also loved dancing, playing, and mimicking animal noises. She was always seen holding something. Whether it was a banana, cup of water, toothbrush, or Peppa Pig; she always wanted something in her hands to hold and especially enjoyed holding them during long walks in her stroller. Emery was the sweetest baby and will be sorely missed by the many people she inspired.
Emery will forever be loved and cherished by her mommy and daddy, Angie and Trent; her big brother, Ethan (Bubba); her big sister, Ella; her grandma and grandpa, Candy and Randy Reid; her grandpa, Mike Thompson; her aunts and uncles, Mike and Andrea Reid, Brandon and Kate Thompson and Michael Thompson; her cousins, Ava, Paige, Briar, Brody, and Wyatt; along with other loving relatives and special friends including all of the staff and Dance Marathon volunteers at Stead Family Children’s Hospital at the University of Iowa. Those welcoming Emery in heaven with open arms are her grandma, Tami Thompson; her uncle, Jeremy Thompson; and great-grandparents, Nancy Graves, Clifton Reid, Judy Beason, Marjorie Thompson, and Dale Thompson. Emery is also preceded in death by too many small but brave warriors who also had to fight the beast we call childhood cancer.
The family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday March 25, 2018 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave in Des Moines. Private Services will be held at a later date. The family would also like to invite all friends and family to a balloon release at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill on Sunday April 1st at 9:00 am in honor of Emery’s 2nd birthday. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Emery. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
