Edwin "Papa Wildcat" Oliver
March 21, 2018
Edwin “Papa Wildcat” Oliver, 64, passed away March 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Ed was born on April 23, 1953 in Albany, Kentucky to Jack and Elizabeth Oliver. He married Sherri Fennell on February 14, 1983. Ed grew up in Kentucky and moved to Des Moines in 1992, to support his family. He was a dedicated and loyal employee of Pitney Bowes where he held various positions for 44 years, until his retirement in 2018. Ed was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan. He loved playing cards, country music, fishing and boating. Ed loved watermelon and “burries”. Ed also enjoyed tinkering and fixing things with his Dewalt tools.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Sherri; sons, Branden Oliver and Joshua (Lori) Griffith; granddaughters, Shaylen and Laney; brother, Stephen (Shirley) Oliver; niece, Michelle Oliver; nephew, Matt Oliver; niece, Stacey (Shawn) Enloe; great-nephew, Jacob; and a host of cousins and extended family in Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Elizabeth Oliver; in-laws, Vernon and Shirley Fennell; and sister-in-law, Shelley.
Papa Wildcat and the family want to invite you to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, March 25th. We will “celebrate” from 6:00-8:00 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA. A short service will be provided from 7:00-7:30 and encourage everyone to join us. The celebration will include a place for family and friends to play several of Ed’s favorite games while visiting and talking about several of their favorite memories. There will be snack food available and a video of Kentucky’s latest win of the season being played.
Please wear your favorite sports memorabilia and be ready to be razzed for not being a Kentucky fan. The family will be in jeans and Kentucky Wildcat gear.
We look forward to seeing you there! Go Big Blue!
In lieu of flowers, the family will be making Papa Wildcat Paws for the Cause Care Packages to support other families going through similar challenges. All donations will be going to help support this cause.

Sherri, My husband and I worked with Ed at Pitney Bowes in Nashville. We just today heard of his passing. Ed and I were known at Pitney for eating peanut butter in our chili, we told them it was a Kentucky thing. We thought the world of Ed! Kim and Eddie Walker

I met Ed when I first started to work at Pitney Bowes in 1976. He was one of my mentors when I was leaning how to work on the PBC copier. I always admired him as he was always there to help with a great attitude when asked. I am sorry for the loss. He was a great guy.

It was such a privilege to have known and worked with Ed for the last few years of my Pitney Bowes career. He was loved and admired by the entire team. A true leader, he never backed away from any challenge. He will be deeply missed. Thank you so much to his family for sharing him for so many years. I hope you are somewhat comforted knowing he had such a big positive impact on so many lives. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.
