Jacqueline (Johnston) Smith

Jacqueline (Johnston) Smith, 71, lost her battle to cancer on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in Joplin, Missouri.

Jackie was born August 31, 1946 in Des Moines, IA to Leefa (Danielson) Adkins and Charles Johnston. She is survived by her children, Edward (Sheri) Hoskins and Kelly (Greg) DeVore; her brothers, Kenneth Johnston and Robert Johnston; her sister, Deborah Finney; her grandchildren, Joshua Hoskins, Kayla (Drew) Davis, Alyssa (Christopher) Moore, and Kaylee Coe; and her great-grandchildren, Wren and Bodhi Hoskins. Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents, Leefa (Danielson) Adkins and Charles Johnston; her brothers, Chuck Johnston and Herbert Johnston; her sister, Gail West; and her son, Troy Hoskins.

She committed many years employed at Wonder Bread Hostess where she made many friends before working with adults with disabilities. She loved to chat with her customers. She helped many of her farming friends by saving dated product. Everyone knew her as grandma. All of her hobbies were perfected in art. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, crocheting and spending time doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren. In earlier years, she would not pass up an adventure to go camping or fishing. She always enjoyed nature. When it came to the holidays, Jackie had childlike enthusiasm that she wanted to share with everyone. Most of all, she enjoyed the holidays and being with family. Many will remember her ever-growing Halloween display and miniature villages. Jackie had a way of teaching everyone life lessons.

The funeral service will be held at 12 PM Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home with visitation from 10 AM - 12 PM.
