Service Details

Alan Thomas Diers, 67, was born May 20, 1950 in Orchard, Nebraska, the son of John and Helen (Paige) Diers. He passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

Alan worked for RR Donnelley, formerly known as Meredith, as a Pressman and Cylinder Maker for over 27 years. Al loved his family, especially his boys. He truly enjoyed going hunting and fishing with them. Whatever the boys enjoyed Al enjoyed. Al’s faith in God and devotion to his church was one the most important things in his life. He was a very active member at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for the past sixty years. He was an Usher and took his job very seriously. He never missed his duties at the 4:30 Saturday Mass. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus and enjoyed the comradery of his fellow members. From fish fries to the fall festival, Al was always at the church, it was his favorite part-time job. He always prayed for everyone. Even if you were taking a short car trip he would pray for you and keep you in his thoughts.

He loved the holidays and traditions. From growing pumpkins for Halloween to dying Easter eggs and decorating with each family member’s name. One of his passion was his gardening and science projects on the half court in his back yard. He loved to grow vegetables and experiments in plastic cups. He loved to sit under the shade tree on the patio and enjoy the outdoors. The boys always wanted to trim the tree, but he wouldn’t have it. One of his newest hobbies was his grandbaby Sharlee Grace, from the day he met this fancy little lady he was head over heels for her. He was always asking when Johnny and Tamarind were going on a date night because he could not get enough of her. He especially loved her tweedy birds, as he called them, Sharlee’s cute pigtails.

His wife Joyce, what would he have done without her. Anything she made or did was special to him. She was the light of his life. They were married over forty-nine years and made a wonderful life together. Al shared his joy for life with everyone he met. He always had a story to share and love in his heart.

Alan is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joyce Diers; sons, Todd Diers, Mike Diers and John (Tamarind) Diers; granddaughter, Sharlee Grace Diers; sister, Sonna (Bill) Struyf; brother-in-law, Michael Blouin; other loving relatives and many special friends.
