Sharon A. Mueller
March 17, 2018
Sharon A. Mueller, 70, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018 and is resting in eternal peace. She is survived by her loving husband Tom of 47 years, her daughters Melanie and Kelly, her sister Donna Smith, her half-siblings Karen Ferrara, Gary McWhirter and Sherrel Battles, and her fur babies Toby, Cookie, Halley and Ivy. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Wm. Dean and Lois (Liebenow) McWhirter, her grandparents, and her sister-in-law Joanne Mueller.
A committed nurse for over 40 years, she dedicated her life to helping others, taught numerous others her ways, set the example to live up to, touched countless lives, and was beloved by many people. Most recently, she spent her Saturdays running the Free Medical Clinic at Corinthian Baptist Church in Des Moines. She never met a stranger, would give someone the shirt off her back and would give her time to anyone who needed help in any way. She leaves a huge hole not only in our hearts, but among the communities in which she immersed herself. Her love was unmatched. Her spirit was forever uplifting. And her legacy will live on! May she watch down over all those who love her deeply and may we all find solace in knowing Heaven earned a great one. You were our champion; you were our sunshine; you were our wife and mom; you were our sister and aunt; you were our friend and teacher; and you were as unique as they come. We love you and we are so proud of your strength, your courage, and your willpower; we are amazed by your compassion, kindness, and generosity; and we are forever grateful for your unconditional love.
Her Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Hamilton’s, 3601 Westown Pkwy, West Des Moines, with a reception to follow. Donations, if you wish, can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. We love you, SAM! You were simply the best! Until we meet again!

So shocked and sorry for your loss. I will always remember Sharon on our trip to Cuba several years ago. She bought a Che hat and wore it everywhere. She was so much fun, and I admire her wonderful works. Rest In Peace, Sharon.

Had the privilege of knowing Sharon when she was dating Tom. I was at their wedding and my parents had a little reception at their home for them.. Even though I have lived in FL, we have kept in touch through these 48 plus years. My love goes out to you all. She leaves a big hole in our hearts. The people she touched and helped will continue as a testament to her legacy. Hugs and my deepest sympathies.

We had the privilege of connecting with Sharon through our son Jeff. Sharon was his advisor and mentor at DMU and a surrogate grandmother to his first born. Tom also had the privilege of connecting with her through the Governors Volunteer Commission. She was a positive, caring and supportive individual who influenced many. Her life should truly be celebrated.

For my sister, who never gave in, and never gave up. Who lived the life she loved, with those she loved dearly. I'm sorry you are gone, but you are still there. Love, Donna

Having her an hour away made moving to Grinnell a little easier.
She was truly a blessing.

Dear Tom, Melanie and Kelly. My heartfelt condolences to you all. Even though, this is an unimaginable loss for you three but it is a huge loss for all the other people she had befriended over the years and people she served in her selfless way. Each of us has multiple stories of how she helped and supported us in our struggles. She was the definition of a "true friend". She will be dearly missed by many.

To Sharon's family - I am so sorry, this was so unexpected. You are all in my prayers. I know your world is upside down at the moment. Sharon was a wonderful woman who always cared for others. She was tireless and selfless in her mission to help those in need. I was honored to be her friend. The community will miss her, the world lost someone who lived her faith, someone who lived "be thy brothers keeper". I can't believe she is gone, gone far too soon.
