Jane Muriel Martell
March 15, 2018
Jane Martell, 78, passed away March 15, 2018 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Jane was born August 20, 1939 to Marcellus “Del” and Helen (Clement) Hilke in La Crosse, WI. She had a thirty year career with the State of Iowa, working as a secretary in appeals and fair hearings. Jane loved to travel, take walks at Gray’s Lake, and was an avid card player. She cheered on the Hawkeyes and the Cyclones, but she was just a little bit more of a Hawk Fan! Above all, Jane was so very proud of her family. She told everyone who would listen about her daughter and granddaughters. (They were all her favorite!)
She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Gary) Hoard; granddaughters, Jessica (Zeke) Tiemeyer, Kate (Chad) Sorensen, Jessica (Ivan) Abel, and Angela (Cory) Holloway; great-grandchildren, Blake, Drew, Chase, Peyton, Ella, Kenna, Caleb, Reese, and Ava; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other loving family members. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ronald “Don” Hilke; and great-granddaughter, Alyssa Abel.
Memorials may be directed to Susan G. Komen. Condolence expressions at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

I had the distinct pleasure of working many years at Appeals and Fair Hearings alongside Jane. She was one of those people who mostly anonymously served the public behind the scenes. My condolences to the family. Be assured that she positively touched the lives of people you will never know.

She ran over my mailbox. She ran over my crab apple tree. She dressed up as a witch on Halloween and ran into the back of a car downtown. And she laughed and made everyone else laugh about it all. I've never met anyone who was so ready to try anything and to have fun. Jane was one of a kind, and she made this a happier world. I will smile every time I think of her.

Janes dedication, dependability and expertise with the Appeals and Fair Hearings Division was exemplary! She was very compassionate about the decisions she transcribed, her co-workers and the public with whom she spoke. Her beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humor and friendship touched us all! We are truly blessed to have had Jane in our lives! My deepest condolences to Joan and the girls, whom she loved with all of her heart!
