Service Details

Vic was born in Perry Iowa, February 24, 1958 to Beverly (Jean) Banks and Billie Louis Banks. During his life he lived in many exciting places such as Bayard, Jamaica, Coon Rapids, Grand Junction and Madrid, all in Iowa. Vic spent most of his early childhood years growing up on a farm near Madrid, Iowa. He could find all kinds of things to get into, from swimming in the cattle water trough to sailing his boats in the creek. There were always chickens to feed, eggs to gather and stalls to clean. The family eventually moved into Madrid. After moving into town, during the summer months Vic and Marlene (sister) would hire out to walk beans and detassel corn. Vic also worked for an elderly neighbor picking raspberries and mowing yards. Sometimes he'd spend a week with his grandparents and help his Uncle Willard around their farm.

Vic’s passion had always been semi trucks. As soon as he was old enough to work Vic headed to the truck stop, where he worked as a cashier and could talk to the truckers. He met his ex-wife Glennda while working at the truck stop. Vic began driving truck once he was old enough to obtain a CDL license. Vic spent most of his adult career driving his beloved 18-wheelers and doing most of his own diesel mechanics. After wrecking 3 semi trucks he was forced to quit the job he loved so much.

During his marriage to Glennda Reed, they had 2 beautiful daughters, Victoria and Amanda.

Vic was also a great carpenter and electrician, rebuilding and wiring his West Des Moines home after the flood of 1993. After many hours of hard work he'd go home and work on restoring and building the house.

Vic also enjoyed nice relaxing days fishing and spending time with his granddaughter Cheyanne. Cheyanne loved her papa and doing things with him. He would color, play games or read to her. Cheyanne will truly miss her papa.

Survivors include his daughters Amanda Doreen Chesley and Victoria Lynn Genzen, both of West Des Moines, a sister Marlene Youde of Polk City, ex-wife Glennda Reed and four grandchildren, Cheyanne and Tyson Chesley, and Cody and Carter Genzen, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Vic was preceded in death by his parents Beverly (Jean) and Billie Louis Banks. Memorial donations may be made to the family.
