James G. "Bear" Ballard

James G. “Bear” Ballard, 55, passed away at his home March 6, 2018.

Bear was born January 14, 1963 in Des Moines to Leroy Sr. and Nancy (Longerbone) Ballard. He graduated from Tech High School. Bear loved riding his motorcycles and was a member of ABATE of Iowa. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Bear enjoyed spending time with his family and treasure hunting with his nephews.

Bear is survived by his sister, Louise (Ernie) Green; many nieces and nephews; and a host of great friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leroy Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2018 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Avon Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests new teddy bears to be donated to various children’s charities in loving member of Bear.
