David Brandt

Dowd Junior Brandt, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Friday, May 16, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Brethren Cemetery in Dallas Center where military rites will be performed by the VFW #9662. Family will greet friends from 6-8pm Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the funeral home.
Dowd was born December 25, 1926 in Adair, Iowa, the son of August and Marguret (McQuie) Brandt. He retired from John Deere Des Moines Works after 29 years of service, and also worked at Solar Aircraft for 14 years. Dowd proudly served his country as an Army Veteran of World War II, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Dowd volunteered over 50 years at the Drake Relays and enjoyed working part time at Hamilton’s Funeral Homes in recent years.
Dowd is survived by his son, David Brandt (Jean) of Chariton; son, Terry (Pat) Brandt of New York; daughter, Dyane Rector (Drake) of Ankeny; daughter-in-law, Carol Brandt of Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty (Graham) Brandt; his son, William Brandt; his parents and his brother, Donald Brandt.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW #9662 Scholarship Fund in loving memory of Dowd.
